Lever du soleil au Bastion des pêcheurs à Budapest
À l'aube - Bastion des pêcheurs

Let me take you on a captivating journey through the cobbled streets of Budapest, a city that enchanted me with its blend of history, culture, architecture, and culinary delights not to be missed. When I first arrived in this gem of Central Europe, I was immediately struck by its many period buildings and the serenity of its thermal baths lining the Danube. Every corner revealed a new surprise, a new element of history, or a trace of past influences, from the Romans to the Ottomans to the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

I explored this exciting city, visiting its famous Ruin Bars where vibrancy and creativity blend in unusual places. These eccentric spots have become meeting places for curious souls from around the world.

And what about Hungarian local cuisine? I surrendered to the unique flavors of "goulash", the stew that warms the heart. And their famous caramelized brioche cooked on a spit... of which I have become completely addicted!

Today, I share with you the best brunch spots and must-visit addresses in Budapest for dining or enjoying a drink! Get ready to be enchanted by the magic of this city and its gastronomy.

PICHLER : CHIMNEY CAKE

Ah, the "Chimney Cakes" at Pichler, Budapest's finest sweet specialties! During my stay in the city, I was fortunate to discover this delicious Hungarian pastry, and I must admit it was a delightful revelation.

Located in a quaint café-gelateria, Pichler is a true paradise for sweet lovers. As soon as I stepped through the door, the enchanting aroma of freshly baked brioche dough welcomed me with open arms. The atmosphere was cozy, with shelves filled with those famous "Chimney Cakes" in every possible variation: cinnamon, cocoa, hazelnut, coconut, pistachio...

I opted for the classic version, sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon, which was served to me still warm. With the first bite, I was won over. The texture was both crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, with the cinnamon aroma making this brioche even more addictive!

But Pichler doesn't stop there! Their culinary creativity is reflected in their selection of fillings and glazes. I also tried their "Chimney Cake" filled with vanilla ice cream, a true gem...

The tasting experience at Pichler was more than just a sweet pleasure; it was a true discovery of Hungarian tradition. "Chimney Cakes," also known as "Kürtőskalács," are an ancestral specialty of Hungary, and at Pichler, they perpetuate this tradition with passion and expertise.

If you have a penchant for sweet desserts and are looking for one of Budapest's finest specialties, look no further! Pichler is the place not to be missed. Let yourself be seduced by the magic of "Chimney Cakes" and embark on a most delicious gastronomic journey. Your taste buds will thank you!

FRANZISKA :

It's the address for vegetarian brunch in Budapest!

Curious to discover new brunch spots, I was intrigued by their menu right away! It's a brunch just the way I like it: elaborate, hearty, but most importantly, with all the options for vegan, gluten-free, or lactose-free choices, and even Paleo-Vegan pastries!

Brunch chez Franziska à Budapest, où bruncher ?

The choice was tough, but we were eager to indulge in many dishes from the menu. And we were not disappointed...

We opted for 2 smoothie bowls, a Berry Acai Bowl and a Sweet Cashew Bowl (dates, raw cacao, cashews, coconut milk & an incredible topping): this bowl was a revelation for me!!! We also tried their famous hazelnut waffles (GF) accompanied by a fruit topping and agave syrup. Of course, the pancakes were not spared for the sweet part!

And if you know me, no brunch is complete without avocado toast, and this one won me over 100%: generous, flavorful, and high-quality: avocado, ricotta, spinach sprouts, and pickled onions. And to top it off: a plate of eggs & bacon.

This brunch pleased everyone, and honestly, it's one of the best I've had so far.

In addition to the quality of the dishes, the team is attentive, and the bohemian and bright decor makes this place even more unique.

If you're a brunch enthusiast and enjoy culinary discoveries, Franziska is a must-visit during your trip to Budapest. It's a revelation that I highly recommend exploring on your next visit to this beautiful city.

ARTIZÀN BUDAPEST :

A small bakery named "Artizàn" turned out to be a real gem. Nestled in a picturesque street, this charming spot drew me in with its cozy atmosphere and tempting aroma.

As soon as I stepped inside, I was greeted by the sweet aroma of fresh bread and coffee. The atmosphere was welcoming, and the decor skillfully blended modernity with vintage touches, creating a delightful ambiance. The displays were filled with soft and flaky brioches, crispy pastries, and breads with various grains...

We succumbed to temptation by selecting a sugar brioche, a berry-filled rolled brioche, and a brioche stuffed with vanilla custard... and the first bite was sheer bliss! The melting texture and slightly sweet taste of these artisanal brioches were a true delight for everyone. Paired with a carefully prepared coffee, this breakfast at "Artizàn" was a moment of pure indulgence.

But that wasn't all! The discovery didn't end there. Right next to "Artizàn" is "Fabel by Artizàn," which serves only porridges, a dish I particularly adore.

Porridge de chez Artizàn à Budapest

Do you believe I decided to venture there, and it was heaven. The menu offered a variety of porridges, each more delicious than the last. I opted for a porridge with fresh berries and caramelized sliced almonds. This combination of sweet berries and crunchy nuts filled me with joy! "Artizàn" remains a cherished discovery for me in Budapest. Between the bakery "Artizan" and its array of delights, and the joy of savoring a delicious porridge right next door, I was delighted beyond my expectations. If you're in Budapest and looking for addresses that will delight your taste buds, I highly recommend visiting this charming bakery "Artizan" and its neighboring porridge specialist. My last evening was spent at "Retek Bistrot" in Budapest, and it was a true discovery of local cuisine. Located between St. Stephen's Basilica in Pest and the banks of the Danube, this Hungarian bistro offered me an authentic and memorable experience.

Spécialité hongroise à Budapest : le Goulash

Upon our arrival, we were greeted by a warm and friendly atmosphere at the Retek Bistrot. The rustic decoration of the bistro, with its wooden accents and traditional Hungarian elements such as hanging dishes on the walls, created a welcoming and comforting atmosphere.

The menu showcased classic Hungarian dishes prepared with care and passion. I chose to taste the Hungarian meatballs, an iconic dish of the country. The meatballs were deliciously flavorful and served with a creamy and delicate mashed potato. Of course, we also tried the famous Goulash (Hungarian soup with beef simmered in tomatoes, onion, and paprika).

For dessert, I opted for the poppy seed pudding, a traditional Hungarian dessert. This sweet and fluffy pudding, adorned with poppy seeds, was a delightful surprise! Cette soirée au "Retek Bistrot" nous a offert bien plus qu'un simple repas, c'était une véritable immersion dans la culture et les traditions culinaires de la Hongrie.
